Kocher Farm Well Field Development and Transmission Main

The Kocher Farm water supply is an aquifer source with a proven yield of 4.2 MGD. Gwin, Dobson & Foreman, Inc. designed and managed a $3.0 million project to develop and connect the source to the State College water system.

The project included the following highlights:

• Installation of 12,000 LF of 20" raw water transmission mains and interconnection to Nixon Well system

• Development of four (4) high capacity wells with depths ranging from 250 to 500 feet

• Well pumps included four (4) high capacity submersible types ranging from 50 to 150 HP

• Installation of a 48" diameter ductile iron pipe for chlorine contact at Nixon Well field

• Well head protection consisting of pitless units and grouting upper well head zone

• New metering and hydraulic control facility including monitoring equipment, mechanical piping and emergency generator

• Electrical, instrumentation and control equipment

The project was successfully completed on time and within the Authority's budget. The additional supply will meet expanding service area needs for many years.
