Blair County Ballpark Complex

In association with L.D. Astorino, Architects, GD&F was selected for civil engineering services for the new Blair County Ballpark complex. With a capacity to seat 6,500 spectators, the ballpark is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates AA minor league affiliate, Altoona Curve.
The design elements and services that GD&F provided included:
- Topographic and construction stakeout services
- Environmental assessments and permits, including wetland delineation, flood plain analysis and water/wastewater planning
- Subsurface investigation and geotechnical report
- Transportation planning, including traffic counts and studies, I-99 interchange impact, local arterial upgrade and temporary traffic control plan
- Design of water/wastewater infrastructure
- Design of three level, 1,000 car parking garage
- Design of Frankstown Road interchange upgrade
- Design of all surface parking and exterior site work
- Construction administration and PennDOT funding coordination.
A smaller version of Baltimore's Camden Yards, this $20 million complex is one of the finest minor league parks in the United States. Contractors and designers finished the project in a record time of 18 months for the 1999 opening day.
