Year Completed: 2015

Project Cost: $500,000

Gwin, Dobson & Foreman is providing NBIS inspection services to Jefferson County. Our inspection teams are trained and certified in State and Federal requirements for Certified Bridge Safety Inspectors (CBSI).

The county’s bridge inventory includes: 31 culvert, slab, stringer, multi-girder and arch type bridges with spans ranging from 20 to 80 feet; eight stringer, multi-girder and arch bridges with spans from 81 to 150 feet; five stringer, multi-girder and arch bridges with spans from 151 to 300 feet; one open spandrel arch; and one pony truss. These inspections utilize PennDOT’s i-form software and BMS2 database in preparation of the narrative reports. GD&F updated all 46 load rating evaluations for the county bridges.

Each inspection team maintains the required field tools to properly conduct each inspection as outlined in the Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Inspector’s Reference Manual as well as PennDOT’s Bridge Safety Inspection Manual. The team members have a working knowledge of PennDOT’s Bridge Management System 2 (BMS2) Coding Manual, PA Core Element Coding Guide, Design Manual Part 2, Roadway Construction Standards, and Bridge Construction Standards.

GD&F inspection teams are equipped with tools for cleaning, inspecting, visual aid, sounding, measuring, documenting, and accessing the bridge sites.
