The Breezewood wastewater treatment facility needed a process upgrade to meet increasing system demands. As an initial project, the Authority consulting engineer, Gwin, Dobson & Foreman, Inc., designed solids handling and dewatering improvements.
The project included the following work items:
- Design a new sludge dewatering system consisting of solid bowl, horizontal continuous feed, scroll type centrifuge (30 GPM, 4,000 RPM, 25,000 lbs/hr, high solids)
- Conversion of existing vacuum assisted sludge drying beds to centrifuge dewatering system including demolition, architectural work, structural and foundation modifications, electrical work and HVAC improvements
- Sludge dewatering system including a sludge feed pump, emulsion polymer feed system, screw conveyor, in-line comminutor and solids storage
GD&F provided all engineering, design, environmental, permitting and construction phase services. GD&F also administered the Pennvest project financing documents.
