Client: Sandy Township Municipal Authority
Year Completed: 2011
Project Cost: $5,300,000
Sandy Township Municipal Authority extended their water system to the Kiwanis Trail, Brady Street, Lincoln Drive and West Liberty area of Sandy Township.
Gwin, Dobson & Foreman designed the water distribution system, storage tank and water booster pumping station.
Key project elements included the following:
- Water distribution system with 44,500 ft. of 6″-12″ PVC pipe including valves, fittings and system interconnections. The system has been designed for 260 EDU’s, which includes a 10% increase in water demand over the next twenty years. Provisions were made during design to meet this expected growth including fire flow capacity.
- 250,000 gallon capacity, precast concrete water storage tank. The tank was designed based on the estimated daily demand and anticipated fire flow for the system. The work included a telemetry system to send tank level information to the pump station.
- Pump station consisting of a 170 SF precast concrete building which houses two (2) water service pumps, all electrical work, telemetry system and controls, lighting, ventilation and space for a future pump. An external emergency generator with transfer switch is provided. The vertical turbine, multi-stage, centrifugal pumps have a capacity of 160 gpm at 160 feet TDH.
The project was funded by a low interest loan from the USDA Rural Utilities Service. The water supply is provided by the City of DuBois water department through a bulk sales agreement.
